Important information about GPSR regulations (Regulation EU 2023/988 General Rules) – Obligations for sellers, manufacturers, distributors
The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is coming into force as new legislation to ensure consumer and product safety in the EU. This means new obligations for retailers to ensure that all products carry clear safety information and warnings. Compliance with these regulations is not only required by law, but also protects your customers and your business from potential legal risks.
Identification of the responsible person Online sellers are required to provide the name, address and electronic contact details (e.g. email address or website) of the person responsible for the product. If the manufacturer is based outside the EU, the following information for the economic operator established in the EU must be provided instead.

Your obligations under the GPSR Please include the following safety and warning information in the relevant product groups:
Fishing rods
• Only use rods for fishing and not for other purposes.
• Keep a sufficient distance from high-voltage lines (min. 6 meters).
• Carbon fiber rods must not be used during thunderstorms or near power lines, as there is a risk of electric shock.
• Use a protective case when transporting rods to prevent damage.
• Regularly check the connections of the rod parts for looseness.
Reels
• Use reels only with compatible rods.
• Avoid overloading the line to avoid damage to the reel or injury.
• Maintain and lubricate reels regularly to ensure their functionality.
• Keep reels out of reach of children as they may swallow small parts.
Fishing line and line
• Never tie fishing line or line around any part of the body to avoid injury.
• Only cut line or line with a suitable tool, never with your teeth.
• Store line and line in a cool, dark place to maintain its quality.
• Line or line can be a choking hazard. Keep out of reach of children.
Hooks / Jig Hooks / Rigs
• Hooks are very sharp. Cover them when transporting to prevent injury.
• Keep hooks out of reach of children.
• Use pliers to remove hooks from fish to minimize the risk of injury.
• Check the sharpness and strength of hooks before each use.
Tail gear
• Use tail gear only for its intended purpose, for example to set bait.
• Make sure that no small parts are lost to avoid environmental hazards.

Fishing boxes - locks
• Make sure the locks on the boxes are firmly closed to prevent accidental opening.
• Keep boxes out of reach of children as they may swallow small parts.
• Protect hands when opening and closing boxes.
Tools / Knives
• Use tools and knives only for their intended purpose.
• Keep sharp objects safe and out of reach of children.
• Always cut and slice away from yourself to avoid injury.
Landing nets
• Use landing nets only for catching fish.
• Keep a safe distance from power lines, as many landing nets are made of conductive material.
• Regularly check the telescopic mechanism for damage or sand deposits.
Lead
• Lead is toxic. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
• Use lead weights only as directed and dispose of damaged or old lead properly.
• Do not leave lead in the wild to avoid environmental pollution.
Artificial Baits
• Artificial baits may contain sharp hooks. Handle them with care and use protective hook covers.
• Regularly check the attachment and condition of baits.
• Some baits contain chemicals. Avoid contact with food and wash hands after use.
Drill rods and poles
• Use drill rods only to stabilize fishing rods.
• Make sure drill rods are firmly driven into the ground to prevent them from tipping over.
• Protect hands and feet when inserting them into hard ground.
Batteries
• Never cut, open, or throw batteries into fire.
• Do not swallow or mutilate batteries. Keep out of reach of children.
• Dispose of batteries according to local recycling regulations.
