You will recognize the bite before the indicator alerts you. Simply run the indicator along the line from the tip of the rod. Another use is when fishing in obstacles, where you need to lead the line over obstacles on the surface. The eye is made of perfectly smooth wire, so there is no risk of abrasion on the line or braid.
The float is also used to mark lines and leaders where a classic back-lead cannot be used. When you are approaching the shore by boat in the dark, you can clearly see where the lines and leaders are leading, thus reducing the risk of the line getting tangled in the motor's propeller.
